Our God in Heaven, Creator of all flesh and maker of wonders, Keep not your silence; hold not your peace, and be not still, O God. We implore you, the God of the spirits of all flesh, employ your mighty power to halt the bloodshed and atrocities among our neighbours, and bestow peace in the land of Aram Tsuba (Aleppo) and everlasting joy to all of its inhabitants. And the words as they were written shall be fulfilled: “The burden of the word of YHVH in the land of Hadrach, and in Damascus shall be Hashem’s resting-place;[3] Zechariah 9:1 partial and the battle bow shall be cut off, and Hashem shall speak peace unto the nations”,[4] Zechariah 9:10 partial “And Hashem shall judge between the nations, and shall decide for many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.”[5] Isaiah 2:4 And let us say: Amen. |
This prayer for the well-being for the citizens of Syria and residents of Aleppo was first published by the Masorti Movement in Israel, via their web page here. In this article from the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, the prayer is attributed to Ze’ev Keinan. The prayer was transcribed to Unicode Hebrew by Aharon Varady. After we initially posted our own translation, Zeev Keinan graciously shared his translation first posted at the Masorti website here.
