A reading from Jubilees (Sefer haYovelim) 6:15-22, including the text of the Mäṣḥäf Ḳədus (the Ge’ez translation of Jubilees) and original cantillated Hebrew and gender-neutral English translations, for Shavuot. Jubilees is considered to be the earliest source connecting Shavuot with the Sinaitic covenant, and emphasizes the latter as a fulfillment of the Noaḥide covenant (in the narrative of Noaḥ) that had only been maintained through the lineage of Abraham.

15 wä-wähäbo lä-noḫ wä-lä-däḳiḳ-u təʾəmərtä kämä ʾiy-yəkun dagəmä ʾäyḫ dibä mədr |
15 And They gave Noaḥ and to his offspring a sign that there will not be another flood on earth. |
טו וַֽיִּתֵּ֛ן לְנֹ֥חַ וּלְצֶאֱצָאָ֖יו א֑וֹת כִּ֚י לֹא־יְהִ֣י ע֔וֹד מַבּ֖וּל עַל־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ |
፲፮፦ ቀስቶ፡ ወሀበ፡ ውስተ፡ ደመና፡ ለትእምርተ፡ ኪዳን፡ ዘለዓለም። ከመ፡ ኢይኩን፡ እንከ፡ ማየ፡ አይኅ፡ ዲበ፡ ምድር፡ ለአማስኖታ፡ ኵሎ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ምድር። |
16 ḳäst-o wähäbä wəstä dämmäna lä-təʾəmərtä kidan zä-läʽaläm. kämä ʾiy-yəkun ʾənkä mayä ʾäyḫ dibä mədr lä-ʾämasənotä kʷəllo mäwaʽlä mədr. |
16 Their bow They gave in the clouds to a sign, a covenant that is eternal; that there will not be henceforth water of the flood on the earth, to destroy it all the days of the earth. |
טז אֶת־קַשְׁתּוֹ֙ נָתַ֣ן בֶּעָנָ֔ן לְא֖וֹת בְּרִ֣ית עוֹלָ֑ם כִּי֩ לֹ֨א יְהִ֜י מֵאָ֗ז מֵ֨י הַמַּבּ֤וּל עַל־הָאָ֙רֶץ֙ לְהַ֣שְׁחִית֔וֹ כׇּל־יְמֵ֖י הָאָֽרֶץ׃ |
፲፯፦ በእንተዝ፡ ተሠርዐ፡ ወተጽሕፈ፡ ውስተ፡ ጽላተ፡ ሰማይ፡ ከመ፡ ይኩኑ፡ ገበርተ፡ በዓል፡ ዘሱባዔ፡ በዝ፡ ወርኅ፡ ምዕረ፡ ለዓመት፡ ለሐዲስ፡ ኪዳን፡ በኵሉ፡ ዓም፡ ወዓመት። |
17 bä-ʾəntä-zə täśärəʽä wä-täṣəḥfä wəstä ṣəllatä sämay kämä yəkunu gäbärtä bäʽal zä-subaʽe bä-zə wärḫ məʽrä lä-ʽamät lä-ḥädis kidan bä-kʷəllu ʽam wä-ʽamät. |
17 For this reason, it was established and written in the tablets of heaven that they will be performing the Week Festival in this month, once a year, to renew the covenant each and every year. |
יז עַל־כֵּ֗ן הוּכַ֣ן וְכָתוּב֮ בְּלוּח֣וֹת הַשָּׁמַ֒יִם֒ כִּי־יִהְי֣וּ עוֹשִׂ֗ים אֶת־חַ֤ג הַשָּׁבֻעוֹת֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַזֶּ֔ה פַּ֖עַם בַּשָּׁנָ֑ה לְחַדֵּ֧שׁ אֶת־הַבְּרִ֛ית בְּכׇל־שָׁנָ֖ה וְשָׁנִֽים׃ |
፲፰፦ ወኮነት፡ ኵላ፡ ዛቲ፡ በዓል፡ እንዘ፡ ትትገበር፡ በሰማይ፡ እምዕለተ፡ ፍጥረት፡ እስከ፡ መዋዕለ፡ ኖኅ፡ ዕሥራ፡ ወስድስቱ፡ ኢዮቤልዉ፡ ወሱባዔ፡ ዓመት፡ ኃምስተ፡ ወዐቀብዋ፡ ኖኅ፡ ወደቂቁ፡ ሰብዓተ፡ ኢዮቤልዉ፡ ወሱባዔ፡ ዓመታት፡ አሐተ፡ እስከ፡ አመ፡ ሞቱ፡ ለኖኅ፡ ወእምዕለተ፡ ሞቱ፡ ለኖኅ፡ አማስኑ፡ ውሉዱ፡ እስከ፡ አመ፡ መዋዕለ፡ አብርሃም፡ ወይበልዑ፡ ደመ። |
18 wä-konät kʷəlla zati bäʽal ʾənzä tətəgäbär bä-sämay ʾəm-mʽəlätä fəṭrät ʾəskä mäwaʽlä noḫ ʽəśra wä-səddəstu ʾiyyobeləwu wä-subaʽe ʽamät ḫamməstä wä-ʽäḳäb-wa noḫ wä-däḳiḳ-u säbʽatä ʾiyyobeləwu wä-subaʽe ʽamätat ʾäḥätä ʾəskä ʾämä mot-u lä-noḫ wäʾ-əm-mʽəlätä motu lä-noḫ ʾämasənu wəlud-u ʾəskä ʾämä mäwaʽlä ʾäbrəham wä-yəbälʽu dämä. |
18 And all this festival has been meanwhile made in heaven from the day of creation until the days of Noaḥ, twenty-six jubilees and five weeks of years, and Noaḥ and his offspring kept it seven jubilees and one week of years, until Noaḥ’s death, and from the day of Noaḥ’s death his children corrupted [it] until the days of Abraham, and they were eating blood. |
יח וְעוֹדֶ֣נּוּ ׀ הָיָ֣ה ׀ כׇּל־הַחַ֣ג הַזֶּ֡ה נַעֲשָׂ֣ה בַּ֠שָּׁמַ֠יִם מִיְּמֵ֨י בְּרֵאשִׁ֜ית עַ֣ד ׀ יְמֵ֣י נֹ֗חַ עֶשְׂרִ֣ים וְשִׁשָּׁ֣ה יוֹבְלוֹת֮ וּשְׁבוּע֣וֹת שָׁנִ֣ים חֲמִשָּׁה֒ וַֽיִּשְׁמְרֶ֩הוּ֩ נֹ֨חַ וְצֶאֱצָאָ֜יו שִׁבְעָ֤ה יוֹבְלוֹת֙ וּשְׁבוּעַ־שָׁנִ֣ים אֶ֔חָד עַ֖ד מ֣וֹת נֹ֑חַ וּמִיְּמֵ֤י מוֹת־נֹ֙חַ֙ שִׁחֲת֣וּ בָנָ֔יו עַ֚ד יְמֵ֣י אַבְרָהָ֔ם וַיֹּאכְל֖וּ אֶת־הַדָּֽם׃ |
፲፱፦ ወአብርሃም፡ ባሕቲቱ፡ ዐቀበ፡ ወይስሐቅ፡ ወያዕቆብ፡ ውሉዱ፡ ዐቀብዋ፡ እስከ፡ መዋዕሊከ። ወበመዋዕሊከ፡ ረስዑ፡ ውሉደ፡ እስራኤል፡ እስከ፡ አመ፡ ሐደስክዎሙ፡ በኀበ፡ ዝደብር። |
19 wä-ʾäbrəham baḥətitu ʽäḳäbä wä-yəsḥäḳ wä-yaʽḳob wəlud-u ʽäḳäbəwa ʾəskä mäwaʽlikä. wä-bä-mäwaʽlikä räsʽu wəludä ʾəsraʾel ʾəskä ʾämä ḥädäskəw-omu bäḫäbä zə-däbr. |
19 And Abraham alone kept [it], and Isaac and Jacob his children kept [it], until your days; and in your days the children of Israel neglected it until I renewed them at this mountain. |
יט וְאַבְרָהָ֨ם לְבַ֜ד שְׁמָר֗וֹ וְיִצְחָ֨ק וְיַעֲקֹ֧ב בָּנָ֛יו שְׁמָר֖וּהוּ עַד־יָמֶ֑יךָ וּבְיָמֶ֙יךָ֙ שָׁכְח֣וּ בְּנֵי־יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל עַ֥ד חִדַּשְׁתִּ֖ים בָּהָ֥ר הַזֶּֽה׃ |
፳፦ ወአንተሂ፡ አዝዞሙ፡ ለውሉደ፡ እስራኤል፡ ወይዕቀብዋ፡ ለዛቲ፡ በዓል፡ በኵሉ፡ ትዝምዶሙ፡ ለትእዛዝ፡ ሎሙ፡ ዕለተ፡ አሐተ፡ በዓመት፡ በዝ፡ ወርኅ፡ይግበሩ፡ በዓለ፡ ባቲ፡ |
20 wä-ʾäntä-hi ʾäzzəzomu lä-wəludä ʾəsraʾel wä-yəʽḳäbəwa lä-zati bäʽal bä-kʷəllu təzməddomu lä-təʾəzaz lomu ʽəlätä ʾäḥätä bä-ʽamät bä-zə wärḫ yəgbäru bäʽalä bati |
20 And you, command the children of Israel and they will keep this festival in all their kinds as a commandment for them, on one day in the year in this month, to perform this festival in it. |
כ וְאַתָּ֗ה צַ֚ו אֶת־בְּנֵ֣י יִשְׂרָאֵ֔ל וְשָׁמְרוּ֙ אֶת־הַחַ֣ג הַזֶּ֔ה בְּכׇל־דֹּרֹתָ֖ם לְמִצְוָ֣ה לָהֶ֑ם י֨וֹם אֶחָ֤ד בַּשָּׁנָה֙ בַּחֹ֣דֶשׁ הַזֶּ֔ה יַעֲשׂ֥וּ אֶת־הַחַ֖ג בּֽוֹ׃ |
፳፩፦ እስመ፡ በዓለ፡ ሱባዔያት፡ ይእቲ፡ ወበዓለ፡ ቀዳሜ፡ ፍሬ፡ ይእቲ፡ ክልኤ፡ ዕፅፈት፡ ይእቲ፡ ወለክልኤ፡ ዘመድ፡ ዛቲ፡ በዓል፡ በከመ፡ ጽሑፍ፡ ወቍሩጽ፡ በእንቲአሃ፡ ግብራ፡ |
21 ʾəsmä bäʽalä subaʽeyat yəʾəti wä-bäʽalä ḳädame fəre yəʾəti kəlʾe ʽəṣ́fät yəʾəti wä-lä-kəlʾe zämäd zati bäʽal bä-kämä ṣəḥuf wä-ḳʷəruṣ bä-ʾəntiʾä-ha gəbra |
21 Since the festival of weeks it is, and the festival of first fruits it is, twofold it is, and of twofold kinds this festival is; in that it is written and engraved regarding it perform. |
כא כִּי־חַ֨ג הַשָּׁבֻע֜וֹת ה֗וּא וְחַ֨ג בִּכּוּרֵ֤י הַפֵּרוֹת֙ ה֔וּא כָּפ֣וּל ה֔וּא וּלְמִינֵ֥י כִּפְלַ֖יִם הַחַ֣ג הַזֶּ֑ה בַּאֲשֶׁ֕ר כָּת֛וּב וְחָר֥וּת עַל־אוֹדוֹתָ֖יו עֲשֵֽׂה׃ |
፳፪፦ እስመ፡ ጸሐፍኩ፡ ውስተ፡ መጽሐፈ፡ ሕግ፡ ዘቀዳሚ፡ ውስተ፡ ዘጸሐፍኩ፡ ለከ፡ ትግበራ፡ በበ፡ ጊዜሃ፡ ዕለተ፡ አሐተ፡ ለዓመት። ወቍርባኖሂ፡ ነገርኩከ፡ ከመ፡ ይኩኑ፡ ዝኩራነ፡ ወይገብርዋ፡ ውሉደ፡ እስራኤል፡ ውስተ፡ ትዝምዶሙ፡ በዝ፡ ወርኅ፡ ዕለተ፡ አሐተ፡ ለለ፡ አሐዱ፡ ዓመት። |
22 ʾəsmä ṣäḥäfku wəstä mäṣḥäfä ḥəgg zä-ḳädami wəstä zä-ṣäḥäfku läkä təgəbära bäbä gizeha ʽəlätä ʾäḥätä lä-ʽamät. wä-ḳʷərbanohi nägärkukä kämä yəkunu zəkuranä wä-yəgäbərəwa wəludä ʾəsraʾel wəstä təzəmədomu bäzə wärḫ ʽəlätä ʾäḥätä lälä ʾäḥädu ʽamätə. |
22 For I have written in the book of the first law, in which I wrote for you you should perform it in its time, one day in the year; and its sacrifices I told you to be a memory, and the children of Israel will perform it in their kinds in this month, one day for one year. |
כב כִּ֣י כָּתַ֡בְתִּי בְּסֵ֣פֶר הַחֹ֣ק הַקַּדְמוֹן֩ בַּאֲשֶׁ֨ר כָּתַֽבְתִּי־לְךָ֜ תַּעֲשׂ֣וּ בִּזְמַ֗נּוֹ יוֹם־אֶחָד֙ לְשָׁנָ֔ה וְאֶת־קׇרְבְּנוֹתָ֣יו הִגַּדְתִּ֔יךָ כִּי־יִהְי֖וּ לְזִכָּר֑וֹן וְעָשׂ֨וּ בְּנֵ֤י יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ בְּדֹרֹתָ֔ם בַּחֹ֧דֶשׁ הַזֶּ֛ה י֥וֹם אֶחָ֖ד לְשָׁנָ֥ה אַחַֽת׃ |
