We begin with prayer: MAH TOVU, sung by the officiant and the choir before the tabernacle. – Office of Mincha. – After the SHMONAH-ESRÉ, Psalm 8 and the hymn of ADON OLAM. Meanwhile the children say the following prayer:
Prière avant l’initiation.
Prayer before initiation.
«Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes parôles» (Salomon, Prov. 4, 10).
“Hear, my son, and receive my words” (Solomon, Prov. 4:10).
O Lord my God, by your divine providence I was born and brought up in the faith of Israel, I was instructed in the precepts of your holy religion, and I come near your sanctuary with joy to promise you to keep them always. Although I am still young and weak, I am not afraid of the many duties that will be imposed on me on this solemn day, for I know, my God, that in your love you direct and strengthen the steps of your children; I am ready to solemnly confess the unity of your name and the truth of your immortal law, which you revealed to Moses.
Yes, I promise from the bottom of my soul to remain faithful to you, my Father and my God, to never willfully violate the precepts of your law and to obey your commandments unto death.
Receive me into the covenant of my fathers; establish my soul in goodness; sustain it in the practice of virtue. Teach me to resist the examples of ungodliness, and inspire me with your spirit, so that your will may always be mine, and that I may make my happiness in pleasing and worshiping you.
Bring to fruition in my heart the lessons and counsel of my parents and devout men; let the example of their lives be the constant guide of my actions, so that I may make myself worthy of your blessings, O my Father.
May the promise I make today be always present in my mind, reminding me at all times of the duty I undertake in the presence of all my brothers and sisters to consecrate my body and soul to you, for I belong to you, Lord; and if my childhood was a preparation for being admitted into your covenant on this earth, my whole life must prepare me for the eternal covenant in heaven.
Sermon.
Sermon. — The officiant and the choir sing the hymn, YIGDAL.

“Prière avant l’initiation” appears as the first prayer in a Bnei Mitsvah service for boys and girls as published in Imrei Lev: Prières D’un Cœur Israélite (second edition, 1852) by Jonas Ennery and Rabbi Arnaud Aron.
