פורים | Ta’amei Hamiqra (cantillation) for Megillat Esther

For aspiring ba’al koreh (readers) of Megillat Esther studying its various styles of cantillation (Hebrew, ta’amei hamiqra or in Yiddish, trope), a fair number of recordings are popping up online, but only one so far is being shared with a free/libre, copyleft license thanks to Gabriel Seed, lead developer of zemirotdatabase.org. The audio file is free to redistribute and remix under the CC BY-SA 3.0 Unported license. We’re honored to share Gabriel’s recording of a zarqa table for Megillat Esther read in the Nusaḥ Ashkenaz style.

Megillat Esther – Ta’amei Hamiqra: MP3 | OGG

If you are familiar with other traditional styles of cantillation (Nusah Safaradi, Roma, Temani, etc.) please contribute your own recording of the trope read for Megillat Esther.

Lord, our God, bring us days of good, of mercy, of life and of peace.
Give our leaders the capability to see the natural sanctity embedded in every person.
Give us the ability to trust human beings fighting for their way, for their lives–for our lives.
Lord, lay us down along Your path–a path for [...]

תפילה למעמד המשותף | أغنية الحياة والسلام | Prayer of Mothers for Life and Peace by Sheikh Ibtisam Mahamid and Rabbi Tamar Elad-Appelbaum

God of Life
Who heals the broken hearted and binds up their wounds
May it be your will to hear the prayer of mothers
For you did not create us to kill each other
Nor to live in fear, anger or hatred in your world
But rather you have created us so we can grant [...]

Two mothers, one plea:
Now, more than ever, during these days of so much crying,
on the day that is sacred to both our religions,
Friday, Sabbath Eve
Let us light a candle in every home – for peace:
A candle to illuminate our future, face to face,
A candle across borders, beyond fear.

If one were to accept that a kosher Jewish wedding needs some element of what the Mishnah calls “acquisition” (and, more or less, we accepted this to be the case), any wedding must be conscientious in rethinking the following questions: What exactly is “acquisition” in the Mishnah’s eyes? And, if “acquisition” is inherently offensive to [...]
