This is the bilingual Hebrew-Croatian, nusaḥ Ashkenaz kol-bo (everyday) siddur of Rabbi Dr. Šalom Miroslav Freiberger, z”l (1903-1943): סדור רנה ותפלה Molitvenik (1938). The siddur was reprinted in Zagreb in 1998 sans the prayer for the government (p. 193).

This work is in the Public Domain according to the 1994 Uruguay Round Agreements Act due to the expiration of the term of copyright in its home country (50 years after publication in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia).

Izdanje molitvenika sa prijevodom danas više ne treba opravdanja. Jedini ovakove vrsti, što ga je izdao godine 1902 g. dr Gavro Schwarz, sadašnji nadrabin zagrebački, već je davno rasprodan. Stoga sam se na poticaj izdavača odlučio da spremim novi prijevod, kako bi molitve Izraela bile razumljive svakome tko ih moli.
The publication of a prayer book with a translation no longer needs justification today. The only one of its kind, published in 1902 by Dr. Gavro Schwarz, the current Chief Rabbi of Zagreb, has long been sold out. Therefore, at the publisher’s urging, I decided to prepare a new translation so that the prayers of Israel would be understandable to everyone who prays them.
Nastojao sam da budem što tačniji. Prevodio sam stoga gotovo od riječi do riječi, a samo gdje to nije bilo moguće, preveo sam slobodno.
I strove to be as accurate as possible. Therefore, I translated almost word for word, and only where that wasn’t possible did I translate freely.
U poretku molitava nastojao sam da izbjegnem svako traženje po molitveniku, pa se svaka molitva s potpunim prijevodom nalazi na svom mjestu. Nijesu prevedene molitve za Roš Hašanu i za Jom Kipur, jer tih blagdana i onako svako moli iz mahzora, a nadamo se, da ćemo Božjom pomoći izdati i mahzor za Roš Hašanu i za Jom Kipur. Molitve za Tri hodočasna blagdana (Pesah, Šavuot i Sukot) nalaze se u cijelosti u ovom izdanju. Opširno kazalo s tačnom naznakom za sve molitve i dodatak biće samo od koristi.
In the order of the prayers, I have tried to avoid looking up each prayer in the prayerbook, so each prayer with a full translation is located in its proper place. The prayers for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur have not been translated, since on those holidays everyone prays from the Maḥzor anyway, and we hope, with God’s help, to publish a Maḥzor for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur as well. The prayers for the Three Pilgrim Festivals (Passover, Shavuot, and Sukkot) are included in their entirety in this edition. The comprehensive index with precise references for all prayers and the appendix will be of great benefit.
Zbog teškoća s hebrejskim tekstom, morali smo ovaj molitvenik štampati na dva mjesta. Ako se zbog toga potkrala tu i tamo koja nedosljednost, molim da se to uvaži.
Due to difficulties with the Hebrew text, we had to print this prayer book in two locations. If this has resulted in the occasional inconsistency, please bear that in mind.

Šalom Miroslav Freiberger (translation)

Šalom Miroslav Freiberger (לום פרייברגר; 1903–1943), born in Zagreb (then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire) was a rabbi, translator, writer and community leader. Educated as a lawyer and doctor of theology, he first served as rabbi in Osijek, Slavonia and afterward in Zagreb from 1937 to 1941. That year, after the death of rabbi Gavro Schwarz, he became the chief rabbi of Zagreb. In the years prior to World War Ⅱ, Rabbi Freiberger was a strong advocate of Zionism and the return of Jews to British Mandate Palestine. With the foundation of the Independent State of Croatia in 1941and the first application of the fascist racial laws, Freiberger made efforts to rescue Jews. He had many connections with Jewish organizations in Italy, Hungary and Switzerland, and extremely good relations with the Catholic Church in Croatia, especially with Alojzije Stepinac, Archbishop of Zagreb. Archbishop Stepinac urged Freiberger and his family to take refuge at his court until the end of the war. However, Freiberger declined the offer since he wanted to share the destiny of his people. At the end of 1942 he escorted the last group of rescued Jews to Budapest and Istanbul, from where they were transferred to the British Mandate for Palestine. Among them, with ten underage girls and boys, was his sixteen-year-old son Ruben. The group had received travel documents only after Stepinac and Vatican officials had intervened with the Croatian authorities. Despite the efforts of Archbishop Stepinac to save him, in the spring of 1943 Freiberger was arrested by the Independent State of Croatia regime, when Heinrich Himmler himself arrived in Zagreb, dissatisfied with the way the regime was "solving the Jewish question" in Croatia. Archbishop Stepinac immediately sent a request for Freiberger's liberation to state officials, but without success. On 3 May 1943, with the last transport of Jews from Croatia, the Nazis transported Freiberger and his wife from Zagreb Main Station to Auschwitz. He was killed at the camp entrance when he protested against the inhumane procedures inflicted on the members of his community. (Amiel Shomrony, Rabbi Freiberger's former secretary, filed two motions to recognize Stepinac as righteous among the nations for helping Freiberger in saving the Jewish people of his community.)
