יהי רצון מלפניך, ה׳ אלהי ואלהי אבותי ואימותי, שיהיו הבחירות היום בחירות של צדק ואמת.	May it be Your will, God of my ancestors, that the elections today be elections of justice and truth.
אנא ה׳, שלא אבוש ולא ‏אכלם ולא אכשל בבחירתי, ואדע ואזכור ככפי שאני מצביעה לפי צו מצפוני, כך עושות כל המצביעות.	Please God, let me not be embarrassed or ashamed, may I not fail in choice. May I know and remember as I vote according to my conscience, so do all the voters.
תני בי הכוח לקבל ‏את תוצאות הבחירות בלב שמח ובנפש חפצה, מתוך ידיעה והבנה שבין כך ובין כך לא תמה המלאכה, ואינני בת חורין ‏להיבטל ממנה.	Give me strength to accept the election results happily and willingly, knowing and understanding that no matter what the results, they are not the end of the process, and I am not free to desist from continuing the work.^[1] Cf. the maxim of Rabbi Tarfon in Pirkei Avot, chapter 2
שלחי אורך ואמתך לכל הנבחרות היום, למען תלכנה בדרך הצדק החופש והיושר.	Send your truth and light to all who are elected today so they go in the way of justice, freedom and integrity.
שימי שלום בארץ ‏ושמחת עולם ליושביה.	Grant peace to the land and eternal happiness to its inhabitants.
טעי בליבנו אהבה ואחוה, שלום ורעות, ויקוים בנו הכתוב ”לא ישא גוי אל גוי חרב, ולא ילמדו עוד ‏מלחמה“. (ישעיה ב:ד) אמן	Plant love and brotherhood, peace and friendship in hearts, fulfilling through us “Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.” (Isaiah 2:4) Amen.

Shoshana Michael Zucker was first fascinated by the boundaries and history of Jewish liturgy as a teenager in NFTY in the early 1970s, the waning days of the Union Prayer Book. Since then, she has moved to Israel, raised a family and launched them into adulthood, while praying from varied siddurim with countless notes in the margin and extra notes stuck between the pages. A translator and editor by profession, she would rather study and teach Torah.

  I’m glad we have the earlier version to see the ways in which the prayer is slowly changing over the years.
