Heavenly Father,
we ask Your blessing
upon our country,
upon this Congress,
and upon all the inhabitants
of this great Republic.
Sustain us
in our endeavors
to eradicate hatred and prejudice.
Help us
to preserve
and to nurture
the precious ideals
and democratic institutions
of our American way of life.
Inspire our Representatives
to approach the political,
social,
and economic problems of our day
with forthrightness,
courage,
and unselfishness.
As we approach the Passover season,
to celebrate Israel’s Festival of Freedom,
we give thanks to You
for the blessings of liberty
in our land.
Like the Founding Fathers of this great Republic,
may we be inspired by the spirit of Israel’s prophets
to love mercy
and to pursue justice
for all the citizens of our land,
Amen.

This prayer of the guest chaplain was offered in the third month of the first session of the 94th US Congress in the House of Representatives, and published in the Congressional Record, vol. 121, part 6 (1975), page 7645.
