O God in Heaven, grant peace to this land and eternal joy to all its inhabitants, and may the oppressed citizens of Iran witness the fulfillment of the verses: “In that day—declares God of Hosts— I will break the yoke from off your neck and I will rip off your bonds… for I will deliver you from far away” (based on Jeremiah 30:8-10). And “the same month that had been transformed for them from one of grief and mourning to one of festive joy, they were to observe them as days of feasting and merrymaking.” (Esther 9:22) |
Ô Dieu des cieux, accorde la paix à cette terre et une joie éternelle à tous ses habitants. Et que les citoyens opprimés d’Iran voient s’accomplir les versets: En ce jour; déclare le Seigneur des Armées; je briserai le joug qui pèse sur ton cou et j’arracherai tes liens… car Je te délivrerai de contrées lointaines. This prayer by the Kenesset haRabim b’Yisrael and the Masorti Movement in Israel was offered in the context of a war begun on 28 February 2026 with an attack on Iran by the United States and the State of Israel, on Shabbat Zakhor prior to Purim. The text of the prayer was transcribed from the Hebrew, English, French, and Ukrainian editions available at the website of Masorti Olami. To our reading, the translations are mostly aligned, but there is an occasional gap here and there. Where we have added missing translations of phrases, they appear in brackets.
