“Prayer in behalf of one celebrating a birthday,” by Rabbi Mordecai Menaḥem Kaplan can be found on p. 494-497 of his The Sabbath Prayer Book (New York: The Jewish Reconstructionist Foundation, 1945). I have adapted the original text of this prayer, replacing “thou” with ‘you’, “Lord” with ‘YHVH’, and “God” with ‘elo’ah’. I have replaced him/her formulations with the singular ‘they’ and replaced masculine pronouns with the divine name, Elohim, as invoked at the beginning of the prayer. –Aharon N. Varady

Mordecai Menahem Kaplan (June 11, 1881 – November 8, 1983), was a rabbi, essayist and Jewish educator and the co-founder of Reconstructionist Judaism along with his son-in-law Ira Eisenstein.
