Herr aller Welten, erhabenstes Wesen! erhöre das Gebet derer, die vor dich kommen, um dein Erbarmen und deine Gnade zu erflehen.	Lord of all worlds, most exalted being! Hear the prayer of those who come before you to implore your mercy and grace.
Beglücke mich durch dein großes Erbarmen, meine Kinder zu deinem Dienste, ohne Schmerz, ohne Leiden erziehen zu können. Auf daß sie einst nicht beschämt werden dürfen, wenn sie öffentlich in der Gemeinde mit sprechen.	Gladden me through your great mercy to be able to educate my children for your service, without pain, without suffering. So that one day they may not be ashamed when they speak publicly in the community.
Mögen sie so glücklich sein, sich eine heilige, gottgefällige Ausbildung anzueignen, um sich einst sündenfrei, reichlich ernähren zu können. Nie beflecke ein Laster ihr Leben.	May they be so joyful as to acquire a holy, godly education, so that they may one day be able to feed themselves abundantly, free from sin. Let no vice ever stain their lives.
O daß unsere Augen ihre Freuden schauen mögen, wie sie ewiges und zeitliches Wohl erwerben. Um das Verdienst derer, die hier im Staube schlafen, mögen die Worte meines Mundes und die Gedanken meines Herzens, dir den bessern Opfern gleich, wohlgefällig sein, Ewiger, mein Schöpfer und Erlöser. Amen.	O that our eyes may behold their joys, how they acquire eternal and temporal good. For the merit of those who sleep here in the dust, may the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart, like the better sacrifices, be pleasing to you, Eternal, my Creator and Redeemer.^[1] Cf. “Gebet um glückliche Erziehung der Kinder” was translated/adapted by Yehoshua Heshil Miro and published in his anthology of teḥinot, בית יעקב (Beit Yaaqov) Allgemeines Gebetbuch für gebildete Frauen mosaischer Religion. It first appears in the 1835 edition as teḥinah №134 on pp. 252-253. In the 1842 edition, it appears as teḥinah №135 on pp. 259-260.

Andreas Rusterholz (transcription)

Andreas Rusterholz is a professor of Theology (New Testament and Hermeneutics) at Kwansei Gakuin University School of Humanities Department of Literature and Linguistics. He translated (together with Takako Noguchi, 1943-2017) Jüdische Religion by Günter Stemberger (Beck 1995) into Japanese: Yudayakyo - Rekishi, Shinko, Bunka [Judaism: History, Faith, Culture], Kyobunkwan 2015.

Aharon N. Varady (translation)

Aharon Varady (M.A.J.Ed./JTSA Davidson) is a volunteer translator for the Open Siddur Project. If you find any mistakes in his translations, please let him know. Yehoshua Heshil Miro

Yehoshua Heshil ben Rabbi Binyamin Miro (fl. first-half 19th c.) was a writer and Jewish educator in Prussia, an early advocate and teacher of Jewish girls. He worked as a professor at a private school, and a teacher at the Königliche Wilhelms-Schule (and possibly also the Industrial School for Israelite Girls), in then Prussian Breslau. We know very little else about Miro aside from his publication of a popular anthology of teḥinot for German speaking women first published in 1829. If you know more about Miro, please contact us.
