Gebet für alle Buß- und Fasttage. |
Prayer for all days of penance and fasting. |
Prayer said on every penitential and fast day. |
Almighty King, who sits on the throne of mercy and shows himself merciful. He pardons the sins of his people, wipes them out one by one, pardons the sinners, forgives the criminals, shows kindness to every flesh and spirit, does not repay them according to their wickedness. |
O omnipotent King! who sitteth upon the throne of mercy; governing with beneficence and pardoning the iniquities of His people, by causing them successively to pass away; who extendest pardon unto sinners and forgiveness unto transgressors; who evinces charity to all flesh and spirit, and retributes them not according to their wickedness! |
God, you who taught us to praise you with the thirteen praises, interpret to us the covenant you made with these praises, as you once made known to the most humble of men, as it is written: “The Eternal descended in a cloud, stood by him, and called in the name of the Eternal.” (Exodus 34:5) |
O God! Thou hast taught us to repeat the thirteen attributes of Thy mercy. Remember then unto us, this day, the covenant of the thirteen attributes, as Thou didst reveal them of old to the meekest of men, even as it is written: “And the Eternal descended in the cloud, and stood with him there and proclaimed the name of the Eternal.” (Exodus 34:5) |
“The appearance of the Eternal passed before him and cried: The Eternal is unchangeable, the eternal Being, an all-merciful and all-gracious God, long-suffering and infinite in mercy and faithfulness; who still reserves His mercy for the thousandth generation, forgiving and absolving iniquity, apostasy and sin.” (Exodus 34:6) Forgive our iniquities and sins, and accept us as your own. Forgive us, our Father, we have sinned; forgive us, our King, we have transgressed, for you, O Eternal One, are kind, forgiving and gracious to all who call upon you. |
“And the Eternal passed before him, and proclaimed, the Eternal is the immutable, everlasting Being! An omnipotent God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering and abundant in beneficence and truth; keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity, transgression, and sin, but not acquiting the guilty.” (Exodus 34:6) O! pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for Thine heritage. Forgive us, our Father! for we have sinned; pardon us, our King! for we have transgressed: for Thou, Eternal! art good and forgiving, and abundant in mercy to all who call upon Thee. Amen. |
