Aryeh Shâăg — reshut №2 from the Old Sefaradi Tiqun for Shabbat Ḥazon

“Aryeh Shâăg” is the second reshut offered before Barukh sheAmar at the outset of the Zemirot (preceding Shaḥarit) on Shabbat Ḥazon — the final shabbat before 9 Av. It is the second reshut among the reshuyot in the Old Sefaradi Tiqun for Shabbat Ḥazon.

A lion roared and rose, enraged
And angrily did its will, its anger engaged,
And with its foot and hand trampled and rampaged,
old and young in palace and sanctum fricasseeing.
Blessed be the One who spoke existence into being!

Between the oven and stove[1] Find Taanit 30b, where it states that R.Yehuda bar Ilai would stay in this uncomfortably hot space during the night before the Ninth of Av.  sat my head
And my eyes melted with tears, like water, for the dead
those killed, taken captive, babies still breast-fed!
I am utterly distraught, lacking any wellbeing.

The flock is scattered, without a shepherd for them,
They went every which way, their resting-places condemned,
And lions tore up their little ones in attacking them.
Where, o where is my shepherd? Not in my seeing!
Blessed…

Raising their hearts and eyes to the Deity all-seeing.

I will stand watch, though my foot is not free,
The Surveyor has embittered me,[3] Find Ruth 1:20 and Job 27:2  my strength has left me
And my heart burns as my lifespan has exhausted me,
Of this bitter bad matter to my people I plea,
Has the Rock forgotten me, the God of all being?
Blessed…
