Heikhal [Hashem] — reshut №7 from the Old Sefaradi Tiqun for Shabbat Ḥazon, attributed to Yitsḥaq ibn Ghayyat

“Heikhal [Hashem]” is the reshut offered before the Qaddish preceding Barkhu and the Shaḥarit blessings before the Shema. It is the seventh reshut among the reshuyot in the Old Sefaradi Tiqun for Shabbat Ḥazon — the final shabbat before 9 Av. The piyyut is attributed to Yitsḥaq ibn Ghayyat on the basis of the basis of the incomplete acrostic signature.

Temple of the Cause, temple of the Cause, temple of the Cause! (Jeremiah 7:4)
Its tumult raised, great my arrogant flaws!
In the day that my cherub abandoned my shrine,
I scream, “Ah, ah!” at these pained times I whine.
My heart melts, I pine at my pain so malign.
They answer my face: Great my iniquity was —
My wasting, calls of fear in my ears without pause.
Temple…
Splendor mine my Rock ruined because of my sin
From on high down to earth cast my glory therein.
Out of terror stand goosebumps all over my skin.
Bitter wormwood waters where my joys’ stream once was,
The sun turned to dark as my sight went on pause.
Temple…
As the foe made his plan he had planned by lot,
Against me, cutting down myriads in the onslaught.
Dying in fear of the sword and the shot,
My levite and priests to the slaughterer’s jaws,
With the people since Sinai raised up by the laws!
Temple…
When will You comfort the children bereaved?
To Zion let the noble remnant be retrieved!
From there we will burn the idols ill-conceived,
And say in cutting down Your enemies:
How great are Your works, o Cause! (Psalms 92:6)
