Friede grüß eu fein,
Friedensboten Sein,
Ihr Boten aus den Höhn,
Vom König aller Könige,
Vom Heilgen — Ihm sei Lob.
In Frieden ziehet ein,
Friedensboten Sein,
Ihr Boten aus den Höhn,
Vom König aller Könige,
Vom Heilgen — Ihm sei Lob.
Wollt Frieden mir verleihn,
Friedensboten Sein,
Ihr Boten aus den Höhn,
Vom König aller Könige,
Vom Heilgen — Ihm sei Lob.
Zurück laßt Friedens Schein,
Friedensboten Sein,
Ihr Boken aus den Höhn,
Vom König aller Könige,
Vom Heilgen — Ihm sei Lob.

This is Franz Rosenzweig’s German translation of the angelic adjuration, Shalom Aleikhem, sung as a zemer in the commencement of Shabbat. The translation is found in Gabe, Herrn Rabbiner Dr. Nobel zum 50. Geburtstag dargebracht (Frankfurt am Main, 1921), p.98. I have set his translation side-by-side with the Hebrew. –Aharon Varady
