After these things
the word of the Lord came unto Abram in a vision, saying,
“Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield,
and thy exceeding great reward.” (Genesis 15:1)
And he believed in the Lord;
and he counted it to him for righteousness. (Genesis 15:6)
Abraham’s Faith
And the Lord said: “Look now towards heaven and see
If thou can’st number there the numberless
Great host of stars — even thus thy seed shall be,” (Genesis 15:5)
And Abraham believed in God, and He
Counted it unto him for righteousness.
Happy art thou, who through life’s storm and stress
Dost hold thy faith in God unceasingly,
His mercy will not leave thee comfortless,
But with exceeding peace thy soul will bless,
Yea, and thy faith shall be accounted thee
For righteousness.

“Abraham’s Faith” by Alice Montefiore Lucas was written for “Sabbath—Ⅲ,” (i.e., Shabbat parashat Lekh Lekha) and first published in her collection of prayers, The Jewish Year (1898), p. 6.
