	I will both lay me down in peace and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety. (Psalms 4:8)
	Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee. (Isaiah 26:3)

	Offer the sacrifice of righteousness, And put thy trust for evermore In the Lord God of Hosts, whose name we bless, Whose mercy we adore.
	Many there be that say: Yea, who shall show Us any good in coming years? And on the burden of to-day they throw To-morrow’s doubts and fears.
	Lord, lift Thou up o’er us Thy countenance, And let its light shine on our way, Then shall we move, unharmed by time and chance, With Thee our help and stay.
	Thou hast put gladness in my heart yet more Than when their corn and wine increased, For little need we seek for earthly store, By Thee from care released.
	I will both lay me down in peace and sleep, For Thou alone dost make me dwell In safety, Thou who dost Thy children keep, and orderest all things well.

“From Psalm Ⅳ” by Alice Montefiore Lucas was written for “Sabbath—Ⅼ,” (i.e., Shabbat parashat Ki Tétsei) and first published in her collection of prayers, The Jewish Year (1898), p. 107.

Alice Montefiore Lucas

Alice Julia Lucas (née Montefiore) (2 August 1851 – 25 March 1935) was a British Jewish poet, translator, and communal worker. Alice Julia Montefiore was born in 1851, the elder daughter of Nathaniel M. Montefiore and Emma Goldsmid. Alongside her brother Claude Montefiore, she studied Judaism under Solomon Schechter at the Hochschule in Berlin. On 24 April 1873 she married barrister Henry Lucas, who later served as treasurer and vice-president of the United Synagogue. In 1900 she helped establish the Jewish Study Society, modelled after the Council of Jewish Women, of which she served as the first president. Lucas also sat on the women's committee of the Westminster Jews' Free School and its preparatory nursery, the Jews' Infant School.
