This is an archive of prayers composed for, or relevant to, יום המבול (Yom haMabul, the Day of the Flood) beginning on the 17th of Iyyar (“the 17th day of the second month” in Genesis 7:11), the 32nd day of the Omer ל״ב בעומר (Lev ba-Omer, the “heart” of the Omer). According to the mythic-history related in the Torah and other parabiblical traditions, on that day began a major cataclysm which brought an end to a period of violent depravity known as the דור המבול (Dor haMabul, the generation [lost to] the Flood).

“Between the Fires” by Rabbi David Seidenberg, originally published at neohasid.org, is derived from the prayer of Rabbi Arthur Waskow (the Shalom Center), “Between the Fires: A Prayer for lighting Candles of Commitment” which draws on traditional midrash about the danger of a Flood of Fire, and the passage from Malachi.
