The 33rd day of the Omer, corresponding to 18 Iyyar, is closely associated with resistance to the Roman occupation following the destruction of the second Temple, the revolt of Bar Kochba, and the impositions of state-sanctioned Christianity after the ascent of Emperor Constantine. Indeed, the day was initially commemorated as a fast day in response to the veneration of the death of a certain "Joshua" and possibly too, the occurrence of an especially ominous earthquake on that day in year 363 CE. As Lag ba-Omer has no official liturgical readings established for the day, we will offer in this space those extra-canonical megillot which attest to the significance of the day in the cultural memory of rabbinic Judaism.
