How friendly your rest is, O Queen Shabbat
So we run to meet you, “Come in anointed Queen” Wearing lovely clothes, lighting candles with a blessing, All work ceases, “Thou shalt not do any labor” To enjoy delights, swans, quail, and fish |
The night before we order all types of delicious food
The day of we prepare stuffed chicken Arranging many types of food, drinking spiced wine Decadent delicacies, each of three meals |
You will inherit the legacy of Yaaqov, a boundless legacy at that
You will be honored by the rich and poor, and will merit salvation If you guard the Shabbat, you will be for Me a treasure Six days you shall work, and on the seventh, we make merry! |
Your business is forbidden, as is accounting
Thinking is permitted, as is matchmaking Book learning for the children, “For the conductor, with singing” Reciting precious sayings, in every corner and camp |
Your walk should be leisurely, Shabbat is called “Enjoyment”
Sleeping is celebrated, to the extent that it restores the soul So my soul pines for you, to rest in fondness Like a lily garden, sons and daughters will rest in it |
A taste of the world to come, the rest of the day of Shabbat
All who enjoy it, will reap great joy From the travails of the coming of the Moshiaḥ, they will be delivered to tranquility Our redemption will sprout, and pain and suffering will vanish |
