God,
please be with the people
of Washington DC.
Protect the most vulnerable,
give them the shelter of your peace.
Remind them
that they are not alone,
that we are with them.
Bring us a world
of everlasting love
and togetherness.
A world free
from authoritarianism,
where there are no police,
no weapons,
no jails,
no borders,
no hatred.
Make this prayer
like a pebble in water,
a ripple of holiness
that reaches
across this moment,
across this table,
this home,
this city,
and this world.
Hear us,
so that we may heal our brokenness
seven generations back
and seven generations forward.
Amen.

This prayer, by Madeline Peltz, was offered after the issuance of the Executive Order entitled “Declaring a Crime Emergency in the District of Columbia” on 11 August 2025.
