לִבְנֵי־קֹ֥רַח מִזְמֽוֹר׃

מַה־יְּדִיד֥וֹת מִשְׁכְּנוֹתֶ֗יךָ
יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָאֽוֹת׃
How beloved are Your dwelling-places,
Cause of Multitudes!
נִכְסְפָ֬ה וְגַם־כָּֽלְתָ֨ה ׀ נַפְשִׁי֮
לְחַצְר֢וֹת יְהֹ֫וָ֥ה
לִבִּ֥י וּבְשָׂרִ֑י
יְ֝רַנְּנ֗וּ אֶ֣ל אֵֽל־חָֽי׃
We long for, my very self disappears
for the courts of the Cause,
my heart and my flesh
sing out to the God Alive.
גַּם־צִפּ֨וֹר מָ֪צְאָה בַ֡יִת
וּדְר֤וֹר ׀ קֵ֥ן לָהּ֮
אֲשֶׁר־שָׁ֢תָה אֶפְרֹ֫חֶ֥יהָ
אֶֽת־מִ֭זְבְּחוֹתֶיךָ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָא֑וֹת
מַ֝לְכִּ֗י וֵאלֹהָֽי׃
Yes, the songbird has found a home,
and the free-bird a nest for herself
where she puts her chicks,
by Your altars, O Cause of Multitudes,
my Sovereign and my God.
אַ֭שְׁרֵי יוֹשְׁבֵ֣י בֵיתֶ֑ךָ
ע֗֝וֹד יְֽהַלְל֥וּךָ סֶּֽלָה׃
Happy are those who dwell in Your house,
forever will they praise You – Selah.
אַשְׁרֵ֣י אָ֭דָם עֽוֹז־ל֥וֹ בָ֑ךְ
מְ֝סִלּ֗וֹת בִּלְבָבָֽם׃
Happy is the person who strengthens himself in You,
the highways on his heart.
עֹבְרֵ֤י ׀ בְּעֵ֣מֶק הַ֭בָּכָא
מַעְיָ֣ן יְשִׁית֑וּהוּ
גַּם־בְּ֝רָכ֗וֹת יַעְטֶ֥ה מוֹרֶֽה׃
They pass in the Valley of Tears –
as a spring-place they think of it, yes,
blessed with the coverage of early rain.
יֵ֭לְכוּ מֵחַ֣יִל אֶל־חָ֑יִל
יֵרָאֶ֖ה אֶל־אֱלֹהִ֣ים בְּצִיּֽוֹן׃
They go from strength to strength,
to be seen to God in Zion.
יְהֹ֘וָ֤ה אֱלֹהִ֣ים צְ֭בָאוֹת
שִׁמְעָ֣ה תְפִלָּתִ֑י
הַאֲזִ֨ינָה אֱלֹהֵ֖י יַעֲקֹ֣ב סֶֽלָה׃
O Cause God of Multitudes,
please hear my prayer,
give ear, God of Jacob – Selah.
מָ֭גִנֵּנוּ רְאֵ֣ה אֱלֹהִ֑ים
וְ֝הַבֵּ֗ט פְּנֵ֣י מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ׃
Behold our shield, God,
and look upon the face of Your anointed one.
כִּ֤י טֽוֹב־י֥וֹם בַּחֲצֵרֶ֗יךָ מֵ֫אָ֥לֶף
בָּחַ֗רְתִּי הִ֭סְתּוֹפֵף בְּבֵ֣ית אֱלֹהַ֑י
מִ֝דּ֗וּר בְּאׇהֳלֵי־רֶֽשַׁע׃
For better one day in Your courts than a thousand –
I would choose to stand at the door of the house of my God
than dwell a while in the tents of the evil.
כִּ֤י שֶׁ֨מֶשׁ ׀ וּמָגֵן֮ יְהֹוָ֢ה אֱלֹ֫הִ֥ים
חֵ֣ן וְ֭כָבוֹד יִתֵּ֣ן יְהֹוָ֑ה
לֹ֥א יִמְנַע־ט֗֝וֹב
לַֽהֹלְכִ֥ים בְּתָמִֽים׃
For sun and shield is the Cause God;
the Cause bestows grace and glory;
not withholding good
from those who go purely.
יְהֹוָ֥ה צְבָא֑וֹת
אַֽשְׁרֵ֥י אָ֝דָ֗ם בֹּטֵ֥חַ בָּֽךְ׃
O Cause of Multitudes,
happy is the person who trusts in You.

“The Cause” is used to translate the Divine Name YHVH, based on the philosophical idea of God as the Prime Mover and on the interpretation of the Name as a causative form of the copula – “causes to be.”
