Herr der Welt, du bist langmüthig und von großer Güte! Wie wohl unsre Vorfahren dich oft erzürnt und wider deine Gebote gehandelt haben, so hast du ihnen doch oft verziehen und sie immer aufs neue durch deine Propheten warnen lassen. Deine Propheten haben gewarnt, und ihnen ihr Schickfal vorausgesagt, wurden aber von ihnen verspottet und verfolgt; so ist endlich ihr Dündenmaaß voll geworden, sie waren wiberspenstig und du konntest länger nicht verzeihen (Klagelieder, Kap. 3, V. 42). Und so war der heutige Tag, an welchem die Wiederhersteller des Gesetzes gestorben sind, ein Unglückstag für unser Volk. An diesem Tage wurde Jerusalem vom König von Babel eingeschlossen und gerieth in große Noth. — |
Lord of the world, you are longsuffering and of great kindness! Even though our ancestors were often angry with you and acted against your commandments, you often forgave them and warned them again and again through your prophets. Your prophets warned and foretold their fate, but were mocked and persecuted by them; so at last their measure of sin became full, they were rebellious and you could no longer forgive (Lamentations 3:42). And so this day, on which the restorers of the law died, was an unlucky day for our people. On this day Jerusalem was besieged by the king of Babylon and fell into great distress. — |

We fast today and afflict our bodies, O that the mind may also bow, that we may persevere in the resolve to serve you faithfully and always take the words of your teaching to heart. Remember your covenant with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and its promise never to forsake us completely. May each one of us build a temple in their heart, and sanctify themselves, that you may dwell in them forever. Remember the congregation, formerly acquired by you, the tribe which you liberated for your own. Let not the contrite escape shame, so that the poor and needy may praise your name forever. Amen. |
