Selig ist das Gemüth, in welches sich dein Lichtstrahl senkt. — Das Fest der Religion ist es, welches wir heute feiern, und dich, Allgütiger, beten wir an und danken dir für dieses herrliche Gut, das du unsern Vorältern, am sechsten Tage des Monats Siwan, im dritten Monate nach ihrem Auszuge aus Egypten am Berge Sinai gegeben hast. |

Noch giebt es Völker in der Welt, an deren Beispiel wir sehen können, was der Mensch ohne Religion ist. Die Gotteslehre ist Gottseligkeit. Wo Religion ist, da ist Liebe zu Menschen, ja zum ganzen Weltall. Die Religion ist die beste Führerin durch das Leben, die beste Leiterin in frohen Tagen, die beste Trösterin im Unglück. Wie sollen wir dir genug danken, unser Gott, Herr und Vater aller Wesen, daß du dein Volk Israel gewürdigt hast erwählt zu werden vor allen Völkern der Erde, dein Werkzeug zu sein, das Licht der Religion, den Glauben an dich einiger, untheilbarer Gott, über die bewohnte Erde zu verbreiten! So heißt es in der heiligen Schrift: „Ihr habet gesehen, was ich an Miẓraim gethan habe, wie ich euch auf Adlerflügeln getragen und und euch zu mir gebracht habe. Wenn ihr nur meiner Stimme gehorchen und meinen Bund halten werdet, so sollt ihr mir geliebt sein vor allen Völkern, denn mein ist zwar die ganze Erde, ihr aber sollt mir ein Reich von Priestern und ein heiliges Volk sein” (2 B. There are still peoples in the world by whose example we can see what man is without religion. The doctrine of God is godliness. Where there is religion, there is love for people, even for the whole universe. Religion is the best guide through life, the best leader in happy days, the best comforter in misfortune. How can we thank you enough, our God, Lord and Father of all beings, that you have chosen your people Yisrael before all the peoples of the earth, to be your instrument to spread the light of religion, the faith in you only, indivisible God, over the inhabited earth! Thus it is written: “You have seen what I did to Mitsrayim, how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. If you will but obey my voice and keep my covenant, you shall be beloved of me in the sight of all nations; for mine indeed is the whole earth, but you shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:4-6). |
So laß uns denn nicht vergessen, heiliger Gott, deiner Gnade würdig zu sein, und stets der Religion treu zu bleiben, und dem Bunde den du mit unsern Vorfahren für sie und ihre Nachkommen gestiftet hast. Let us not forget, then, holy God, to be worthy of your grace, and to always remain faithful to religion and the covenant you established with our ancestors for them and their descendants. Let us never forget that all the bonds of life break where God is not remembered. May we all be, as you once spoke through your prophet, a people who have God’s teaching in their hearts. May we always live holy lives; torn loose from evil inclinations and desires, as it is written, “You shall be holy, for I, the Eternal your God, am holy.” (Leviticus 20:26) Holy, holy, holy is the Eternal of hosts; the earth is full of his glory (Isaiah 6:3). Amen. |

It first appears in the 1829 edition, תחנות Teḥinot ein Gebetbuch für gebildete Frauenzimmer mosaicher Religion as teḥinah №27 on pp. 35-36. In the 1835 edition, it appears as teḥinah №27 on pp. 40-42. In the 1842 edition, it appears as teḥinah №29 on pp. 43-45.
