הַנּוֹתֵן מֶמְשָׁלָה לְמוֹשְׁלִים וְשִׁלְטוֹן לְשׇׁלְטָנִים וְאַחְרָיוּת לָאֶזְרָחִים הַמֵּקִים שׁוֹפְטֵי צֶֽדֶק וְהַמַּשְׁפִּיל עֲרִֽיצֵי רָֽשָׁע הוּא יְבָרֵךְ וְיָאִיר וְיַשְׂכִּיל וְיִתֵּן חׇכְמָה וּבִינָה בְּלִבּוֹת כׇּל־מַצְבִּיעֵי הָאָֽרֶץ הַזֹּאת בְּיוֹם הַבְּחִירוֹת הַזֶּה לְהַצְבִּֽיעַ וְלִבְחֹר לָהֶם מֽוֹשְׁלֵי־צֶֽדֶק וְשֽׁוֹלְטֵי־יֹֽשֶׁר שֶׁיַּעַבְדוּ וְשֶׁיַּעַמְלוּ וְשֶׁיִּפְעֲלוּ בְּעַד טוֹבַת הָאָֽרֶץ וּבְעַד טוֹבַת הָעָם וּבְעַד טוֹבַת כׇּל־בָּאֵי הָעוֹלָם. |
May the One who grants governance to governors and rule to rulers, and responsibility to citizens,[1] credit to Stephen Belsky for suggesting this line who raises righteous judges and lowers wicked tyrants, bless and illuminate and enlighten and grant wisdom and understanding in the hearts of all the voters of this land on this day of elections, to vote and choose for themselves just governors and upright rulers, who will work and toil and labor on behalf of the good of the land and on behalf of the people’s good and on behalf of the good of all who go about on earth. |
וְלֹא כׇּל־הָרְשָׁעִים הֶעָרִיצִים וְהַמֻּשְׁחָתִים לֽוֹקְחֵי־שֹֽׁחַד אַנְשֵׁי־חָמָס וּבְנֵי־בְּלִיַּֽעַל כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמַֽרְנוּ בְּלֵב שָׁלֵם בִּימֵי דִּינֵֽנוּ כִּי תַּעֲבִיר מֶמְשֶֽׁלֶת זָדוֹן מִן־הָאָֽרֶץ׃ |
But not so for the wicked, the tyrants and the corrupt, takers of bribes, men of violence, lowlife ones, as we said wholeheartedly in the days of our judgment: “for You will wipe away the arrogant regime from the land.”[2] in the Amidah for the Yamim Noraïm |
תְּנֶֽנּוּ שֶׁנָּקִים וְשֶׁנַּעֲמִיד שׁוֹפְטִים יְשָׁרִים בְּעֵינֶֽיךָ וּבְעֵינֵי כׇּל־רוֹאֵֽינוּ כַּכָּתוּב בְּדִבְרֵי תּוֹרָתֶֽךָ — שֹׁפְטִ֣ים וְשֹֽׁטְרִ֗ים תִּֽתֶּן־לְךָ֙ בְּכׇל־שְׁעָרֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁ֨ר יְהֹוָ֧ה אֱלֹהֶ֛יךָ נֹתֵ֥ן לְךָ֖ לִשְׁבָטֶ֑יךָ וְשָׁפְט֥וּ אֶת־הָעָ֖ם מִשְׁפַּט־צֶֽדֶק׃ (דברים טז:יח) |
Grant us that we raise and bring up judges upright in Your eyes and in the eyes of all who see us, as is written in the words of Your teaching: “Judges and rulers you will grant yourself in all your gates that the Cause your God gives you for your tribes, and they will judge the people righteous judgment.” (Deuteronomy 16:18) |
וְעַל־יְדֵי מַלְכְּךָ מְשִׁיחֶֽךָ שֶׁבּוֹ בָחַֽרְתָּ כָּתוּב — וְ֭עַתָּה מְלָכִ֣ים הַשְׂכִּ֑ילוּ הִ֝וָּסְר֗וּ שֹׁ֣פְטֵי אָֽרֶץ׃ (תהלים ב:י) |
And by the hand of Your anointed king who You chose it is written: “And now, kings, be enlightened, and be warned, rulers of the earth.” (Psalms 2:10) |
וּבְדִבְרֵי נְבִיאֶֽיךָ כָּתוּב לֵאמֹר — וַיָּ֥קֶם יְהֹוָ֖ה שֹׁפְטִ֑ים וַיּ֣וֹשִׁיע֔וּם מִיַּ֖ד שֹׁסֵיהֶֽם׃ (שופטים ב:טז) |
And in the words of Your prophets it is written, quote: “And the Cause raised judges and they saved them from their despoilers.” (Judges 2:16) |
כִּי אַתָּה שׁוֹמֵֽעַ לְזַעֲקַת הָעָם וְיִוָּדַע בְּכׇל־יְצִירֶֽיךָ שֶׁמֶּֽלֶךְ אוֹהֵב צְדָקָה וּמִשְׁפַּט אָֽתָּה׃ |
For You hear the cry of the people, and it will be known among all Your creatures that a Sovereign who loves righteousness and judgment are You. |
