— for those crafting their own prayerbooks and sharing the content of their practice
This is an archive of prayers for, or relevant to, Intersex Day of Remembrance, also known as Intersex Solidarity Day, an internationally observed civic day intended to highlight issues faced by intersex people. It marks the birthday of Herculine Barbin (1838-1868), a French intersex person whose memoirs were later published by Michel Foucault in Herculine Barbin: Being the Recently Discovered Memoirs of a Nineteenth-century French Hermaphrodite (1978). The day was initiated on 8 November 2005, following an invitation issued by Joëlle-Circé Laramée, then Canadian spokeswoman for Organisation Intersex International. The Organisation invited organizations and groups and individuals to show solidarity by remembering the life Herculine Barbin and to raise awareness of the issue of doctors and parents determining the sex and gender of intersex children through surgical interventions without regard or knowledge yet of the child’s own gender preference.
