☞   Purim Qatan Readings

This is an archive of public readings prepared for Purim Qatan, the 14th of Adar alef (only occurring on leap years in the rabbinic Jewish calendar).

During leap years in the rabbinic Jewish calendar, the festival of Purim actually falls on the second month of Adar (otherwise known as Adar bet). In the preceding month (Adar alef), the 14th day is called Purim Qatan (“Little Purim”) and the 15th day is Shushan Purim Qatan, for which there are no set observances.

A leap year in the Jewish calendar occurs seven times in the 19-year Metonic cycle, namely, in years 3, 6, 8, 11, 14, 17, and 19 of the cycle. This means that a leap month is added every two to three years.
