Allow me to pronounce speeding thoughts,
pronouncing dialect and tongue. Whispering, I beg for mercy — let my oration not cause smoking anger! |
בְּעַד נְצוּרֵי כְאִישׁוֹן
אֶפְגְּעָה בְּלִי לִישׁוֹן בַּקָּשָׁה כְּשַׁי נַחְשׁוֹן אֵרָצֶה בָּרִאשׁוֹן׃ |
|
גְּרוֹנִי בַּל־יֻנְטַל
מִקְּרוֹא לְרָם וְנִטַּל גֵּוִי בַּל־יֻטַּל מֵהַזְכִּיר גְּבוּרוֹת טַל |
Grant that I do not lose my voice,
rather than calling to the High and Raised; my body not be cast aside from recalling the Might-Prayer of Dew. |
דֵּעִי בַּל־יֻבְטַל
רְשׁוּת מִלִּטַּל דּוֹדִי יִתְנַטַּל בְּשִֽׂיחַ תְּפִלַּת טַל׃ |
Do not let my knowledge be nullified
from taking permission! My Beloved is Raised up in the discourse of the dew-prayer. |
הֲמוֹן לוֹ נִכְסַף
לַעֲדַת־אֵל אֶאֱסַף הוּא אִתָּם יִתְאַסַּף וּלְמַעֲשָׂיו יִכְסַף |
Enormous crowds of Theirs desiring;
the Deity’s communtiy I will gather. They will gather Themself along time, and desire action for Them. |
וְאֶתְיַצְּבָה בַּסַּף
לְחַלּוֹת פְּנֵי יָסַף וְאִמְרַת טַל אֶחֱסַף לְחַבְּרֶֽנָּה בְּמוּסָף׃ |
While I want to stand at the threshold
to appeal to the presence of the One who Added; and words of dew I will reveal to be included with the additional prayer. |
זֶֽבֶד מַשְׂאַת בַּר
וְאָבִיב נְשִׁיקוֹת בָּר זַֽעַק פִּי יֻכְבַּר וְשִֽׂיחַ לְשׁוֹנִי יֻגְבַּר |
Zest of the field’s produce,
field-kissed ripe grain; let my mouth’s cry it be great, and my tongue’s discourse be mighty! |
חֵן וָחֶֽסֶד יְחֻבַּר
לְחַנְּנִי עַל־דָּבָר חַשְׁרַת־מַֽיִם יׇעֳבָר כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֥ה הַסְּתָ֖ו עָבָ֑ר׃ |
Heap together grace and kindness,
to grace me on this matter; watery masses be passed, for lo, the wet-season is past![3] Song of Songs 2:11 |
טַֽעַם רִנּוּן
וְשַֽׁאַג שִׁנּוּן טַלְתִּי בְּתַחֲנוּן אֶת־פְּנֵי חַנּוּן |
Tasteful cheer
and roaring repetition I took up in petition to the face of the Merciful One. |
יְשִׁישַׁי לַחֲנוֹן
בְּזֵֽכֶר יֵין לְבָנוֹן יְדוּעַי לִגְנוֹן בְּפָסֽוֹחַ וְגָנוֹן׃ |

כְּשָׁרִים וּכְחוֹלְלִים
אֲהַלֵּל כְּבַחֲלִילִים כְּמִפִּי עוֹלְלִים אֲשׁוֹרֵר הִלּוּלִים |
Kin to singers and musicians,
I will praise as if on the flute. As from the mouth of babes, I will compose praises. |
לִשָּׂא דֵּֽעַ פְּלִלִים
צַגְתִּי בְּמַסְלוּלִים לְהַזְכִּיר בְּפִלּוּלִים שֶֽׁוַע גְּבוּרוֹת טְלָלִים׃ |
Letting in the knowledge of the assessors,
I arose upon the pathways, to recall in prayers the shout of the might-prayer of dewdrops. |
מִטַּֽעַם זְקֵנִים
אֶתְבּוֹנֵן עַד זְקוּנִים מוֹרִים תִּקּוּנִים כַּדָּת מְתֻקָּנִים |
My elders’ reasoning
I should understand until I am aged. Teachers establishing per established rules. |
נֹֽפֶת נְבוֹנִים
בִּינַת עַם מְבִינִים נְטִיעַת דָּרְבוֹנִים תִּוְּכֽוּנִי בֵּין שְׁנֵי לֻחוֹת אֲבָנִים׃ |
Nectar of the wise,
understanding of the understanding people, goad-planters,[6] Find Ecclesiastes 12:11 mediate for me between two tablets of stone! |
שְׂפָתַי בְּשֶֽׁוַע אֶפְתַּח
כְּאוּלָם הַמְּפֻתָּח שִׂיחוֹת־פִּי אֶפְתַּח כְּאִיתוֹן אֲשֶׁר נִפְתַּח |
So I open my lips in shouting,
like the Temple’s open hall, beginning my mouth’s discourse like the open outer-gate.[7] Find Ezekiel 40:15. |
עֹז וְכֹֽחַ לִי יִמְתַּח
כַּדֹּק אֲשֶׁר מָתַח עַב טַל יִפָּתַח וְחֹֽרֶב בַּל־יֻרְתַּח׃ |
Open strength and force wide for me,
like gauze spread out; dew-cloud be opened, and let no drought scald. |
פְּנֵי רָם וְנִשָּׂא
עַֽיִן בְּחִין אֶשָּׂא פְּאֵרוֹ לְנוֹסְסָה כְּמוֹ בְּטַל נֻסָּה |

צְבָאָיו לוֹ אֲגַיְּסָה
וְאִתָּם אֶתְגַּיְּסָה צָעוֹק בַּעֲדָם אֶתְנַגְּשָׁה וְלֹא בְּרֽוּחַ גַּסָּה׃ |
Chosen throngs I will assemble,
and with them I will be assembled. Chastened, crying out for their sake, I will be, not of a pompous spirit. |
קַמְתִּי מִמִּשְׁפְּתַֽיִם
לְהַפְגִּֽיעַ בְּעַד לָנֵי שְׁפַתַּֽיִם קוֹל מָה אֶתֵּן בְּשִׂפְתוֹתַיִם הֵ֤ן אֲנִי֙ עֲרַ֣ל שְׂפָתַ֔יִם׃ |

רֹן בְּלִי עֲצַלְתַּֽיִם
עָרַֽכְתִּי בְּמַחֲנוֹתַֽיִם רָחַֽשְׁתִּי גִּישׁוֹת שְׁתַּֽיִם בְּעַד שְׁאֵלוֹת שְׁתַּֽיִם׃ |
Remissness lacking,
I arranged cheer in my two camps — uttering two prayers for the sake of two questions. |
שַׁחֲרִית חַנּוֹתִי לְמָּטָר
בְּלׇקְשׁוֹ גֵּיא לְעַטַּר שַׁבְתִּי לִקְחִי עוֹד לִנְטַר מִתְּבֽוֹעַ עֵֽרֶף מָטָר |
Shaḥarit I begged for rain,
in its precipitation to adorn the valley. I returned, lecturing again to guard from drowning in falling rain. |
תְּפִלַּת גְּבוּרוֹת טַל
חַלְתִּי בַצֹּֽהַר לִנְטַל תִּזַּל אִמְרָתִי כַּטַּל לְקֹוֵי רְסִיסֵי טָל׃ |
The prayer of might of dew
I began to take up at mid-day. Let my word flow like dew to those hoping for drops of dew! |
כַּכָּתוּב׃
יַעֲרֹ֤ף כַּמָּטָר֙ לִקְחִ֔י תִּזַּ֥ל כַּטַּ֖ל אִמְרָתִ֑י כִּשְׂעִירִ֣ם עֲלֵי־דֶ֔שֶׁא וְכִרְבִיבִ֖ים עֲלֵי־עֵֽשֶׂב׃ (דברים לב:יב) |
Let my lecture drip like rain,
like dew flow my word; like drops upon the herbiage, and like showers upon the grass. (Deuteronomy 32:2) |
וְנֶאֱמַר׃
כִּֽי־הִנֵּ֥ה הַסְּתָ֖ו עָבָ֑ר הַגֶּ֕שֶׁם חָלַ֖ף הָלַ֥ךְ לֽוֹ׃ (שיר השירים ב:יא) |
As it is written:
For lo, the wet-season is past, the rain is over and gone. (Song of Songs 2:11) |
וְנֶאֱמַר׃

And it is said:
A prayer of the lowly who is faint and at the Cause spills his speech. (Psalms 102:1) |

וְהוֹצִ֣יא כָא֣וֹר צִדְקֶ֑ךָ וּ֝מִשְׁפָּטֶ֗ךָ כַּֽצׇּהֳרָֽיִם׃ (תהלים לז:ו) |

And bring out Your right like light, and Your justice as of noon. (Psalms 37:6) |

As for me, may my prayer to You, Cause, come at a desired time. My God, in Your great mercy answer me in Your true salvation. (Psalms 69:14) |

And it is said:
You are good and do good; teach me Your law! (Psalms 119:68) |
