May the One who blessed our forefathers, pure men,
And remembered our foremothers, dwelling in tents[1] See Genesis 25:27 , And showed God’s servant the tree of healing waters[2] Referring to Moses. See Exodus 15:25 , And healed the prophetess from her leprosy[3] Referring to Miriam. See Numbers 12:10-15 , And cut a covenant of peace with the one who pursued peace[4] Referring to Aaron and his descendants. See Numbers 17:11-13, Numbers 25:10-12, Malachi 2:4-7 and Pirkei Avot 1:12. , And gave remedy to the sons of the prophets[5] Referring to the disciples of Elisha. See II Kings 4:38-41. , And sent healing to kings[6] Referring to Hezekiah. See II Kings 20:1-11 and Isaiah 38. and to strangers[7] Referring to Naaman the Aramean. See II Kings 5:1-19. , Strengthen me in my quarantine, and give courage to my heart in my isolation. Alas, how she sits alone[8] Lamentations 1:1 — the daughter of Your people Ohohivah[9] A poetic name for Jerusalem or as a metonym for the people Israel, used in contexts of tragedy. — So as to accept and fulfill the words of doctors and disease experts. |

And oh, my God and God of my ancestors!
For it is very bitter to me[10] Ruth 1:13 to separate myself from Your public commandments, For they are our life and the length of our days And a source of joy and cheer in our troubles. But it is recognized and known to me that far, far above any commandment great or small (Excepting to turn away from idolatry, rape, and murder[11] Yoma 82a ) It is my duty to save lives, to live by them and to bring life by them That in faithful truth they be our lives, and the length of our days forever and ever. And this time, soon to come, fulfil for me and for all the house of Israel |
