לָעַד חַיָּה בִּלְבָבֵנוּ
הָאֱמוּנָה הַנֶּאֱמָנָה,
לָשׁוּב לְאֶרֶץ קָדְשֵׁנוּ
עִיר בָּהּ דָּוִד חָנָה.
|
Forever in our hearts lives
the loyal faith
to return to our holy land,
[and] the city where David encamped.
|
|
שָׁמָּה נַעֲמֹד לְגוֹרָלֵנוּ
אַב הָמוֹן קָנָה,
שָׁמָּה נִחְיֶה חַיֵּינוּ
חַיֵּי עֲדַת מִי מָנָה.
|
There we shall stand [to receive] our destiny,
[which the] father of many [nations] acquired.
There we shall live our life —
the life of the innumerable community.
|
|
שָׁמָּה נַעֲבֹד אֱלֹהֵינוּ
בְּחֶדְוָה בְּגִילָה וּבִרְנָנָה,
שָׁמָּה נַעֲלֶה לִרְגָלֵינוּ
שָׁלֹשׁ פְּעָמִים בַּשָּׁנָה.

There we shall serve our elo’ah
with joy, happiness, and song.
There we shall pilgrimage
three times a year.
|
|
תּוֹרַת חַיִּים חֶמְדָּתֵנוּ
מִפִּי עֶלְיוֹן נִתָּנָה,
נֶצַח הִיא נַחֲלָתֵנוּ
מִמִּדְבָּר מַתָּנָה.
|
A Torah of Life is our desire,
given from the mouth of Elyon.
Eternal is our heritage.
From the Wilderness it was gifted.

Bio: Abraham Isaac Ḳooḳ (or Quq, Hebrew: אַבְרָהָם יִצְחָק הַכֹּהֵן קוּק, also known by the acronym הראי״ה (HaRaAYaH); 7 September 1865 – 1 September 1935) was the first Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of British Mandatory Palestine in the Land of Israel, the founder of Yeshiva Mercaz HaRav (The Central Universal Yeshiva), a Jewish thinker, Posek, Kabbalist, and a renowned Jewish sage. He is considered one of the fathers of religious Zionism.
