Our Heavenly Father,
we invoke Thy blessing upon
the Members of the Senate of the United States
as they prepare to deliberate
the vital issues affecting our Nation.
We are grateful to Thee
for Thy gift of the moral and spiritual teachings
which have become part and parcel of the fundamental beliefs
upon which our country was founded.
We ask Thee
to imbue those who guide the affairs of state
with insight and wisdom
“so that justice and equity,
peace and serenity,
happiness and prosperity
abide among us.
“May all the inhabitants of this Nation
join in a common bond
of fellowship and brotherhood
to banish hatred and bigotry,
to safeguard the ideals and free institutions
which are the pride and glory of our Nation.
“May this land under Your providence
continue to be an influence for good
throughout the world,
uniting all people in peace and freedom
and helping them to fulfill the vision of Your prophet:
‘nation shall not lift up sword against nation,
neither shall they learn war anymore’ (Isaiah 2:4; Micah 4:3).”[1] Adapted from Siddur Sim Shalom.
Amen.
