וְעַל הַגְּבוּרוֹת
וְעַל הַמִּלְחָמוֹת
וְעַל הַתְּשׁוּעוֹת
וְעַל הַנִּפְלָאוֹת
שֶׁעָשִׂיתָ לְעַמְּךָ
בַּיָּמִים הָהֵם
בַּזְּמַן הַזֶּה.
For the miracles
and the relief
and the mighty acts
and the battles
and the redemption
and the wonders
you made for your people
in those days
at this time.
בַּיָּמִים אֲשֶׁר שְׁאֵרִית פְּלֵטַת יִשְׂרָאֵל
עַם שְֹרִידֵי חֶרֶב הַצָּר וְהָאוֹיֵב
מָצַא מָנוֹחַ בָּאָרֶץ אֲשֶׁר נִשְׁבַּעְתָּ לַאֲבוֹתֵינוּ לָתֵת לָנוּ
In the days when the remnant of Israel’s refugees
the nation of survivors of the adversary and enemy’s sword[1] cf. Esther 7:6. A reference to the survivors of the Holocaust.  
found rest in the Land that you swore to our ancestors to give to us
וְנוֹסְפוּ עַל בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַיּוֹשְׁבִים שָׁם מִלְּפָנִים,
יַחַד כֻּלָּם בִּקְּשׁוּ לִפְרֹק מֵעֲלֵיהֶם
עֹל מַלְכוּת זָדוֹן הַשּׁוֹלֶטֶת בָּאָרֶץ
וּלְיַסֵּד אֶת מְדִינַת יִשְׂרָאֵל.
Together with the Israelites dwelling their from before[2] A reference to the Jewish immigrants and refugees who had settled in Erets Yisrael in its initial pre-statehood period of settlement.   
they sought to remove from themselves
the yoke of the wicked kingdom that governed the Land[3] ”the wicked kingdom,” a reference to the British Empire in its administration of Mandatory Palestine, a geopolitical entity established between 1920 and 1948 in the region of Palestine under the terms of the Mandate for Palestine  
and to found the State of Israel (Medinat Yisrael)
אַז נוֹעֲצוּ יַחְדָּו בְּנֵי יִשְׁמָעֵאל
יוֹשְׁבֵי הָאָרֶץ וְהָאֲרָצוֹת אֲשֶׁר מִסָּבִיב לָהּ
וְאָמְרוּ קוּמוּ וְנָקוּמָה לַמִּלְחָמָה
וְנַכְחִיד אֶת יִשְׂרָאֵל וְאֶת מְדִינָתוֹ
וְלֹא יִזָּכֵר שֵׁם יִשְׂרָאֵל עוֹד.
Then, the Ishmaelites took council together —
(those) inhabiting the Land and the lands around her[4] i.e. Arab political leaders within Mandatory Palestine and the Arab nations established under the partition of the Ottoman Empire  —
and said, “Let us rise up and go out to war
and exterminate Israel and its (nascent) state
so that Israel will no longer be remembered.”
וְאַתָּה בְּרַחֲמֶיךָ הָרַבִּים
הֵפַרְתָּ אֶת עֲצָתָם
וְקִלְקַלְתָּ אֶת מַחְשַׁבְתָּם
וְעָמַדְתָּ לְבָנֶיךָ בְּעֵת צָרָתָם
וְנָתַתָּ לְבָנֶיךָ עֵצָה וּגְבוּרָה לְמִלְחָמָה בְּאוֹיְבֵיהֶם
וְנִצְּחוּם וְהִכּוּ בָּהֶם מַכָּה גְּדוֹלָה
וְגֵרְשׁוּם מִגְּבוּל יִשְׂרָאֵל.
And in your manifold compassion
you nullified their plans
and confused their thoughts
and stood up for your children at the time of their distress
and gave your children resolve and strength to fight their enemies[5] cf. Isaiah 11:2. But also, curiously, the communique from the king of Assyria to Ḥizqiyahu in Isaiah 36:5 and 2 Kings 18:20 concerning alliances and betrayal.   
and defeated them and dealt them a great blow
and expelled them from the border of Israel
וְעָשִׂיתָ לְעַמְּךָ תְּשׁוּעָה גְּדוֹלָה
וּלְךָ עָשִׂיתָ שֵׁם גָּדוֹל וְקָדוֹשׁ בְּעוֹלָמְךָ.
And you made a great salvation for your people
and you made a great and holy name in your world.
עַל כֵּן קִיְּמוּ וְקִבְּלוּ עֲלֵיהֶם בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל
לַעֲשׂוֹת אֶת יוֹם חֲמִשָּׁה לַחֹדֶשׁ הַשֵּׁנִי
הוּא חֹדֶשׁ אִיָּר
לְיוֹם שִׂמְחָה וְהַלֵּל וְהוֹדָיָה.
Therefore, the Israelites ordained and took upon themselves
that they would make the fifth day of the second month,
that is the month of Iyyar,
for a day of joy and praise and thanksgiving.
וּכְשֵׁם שֶׁעָשִׂיתָ עִמָּנוּ אֶת הַתְּשׁוּעָה הַזֹּאת
כֵּן תּוֹסִיף לְהוֹשִׁיעֵנוּ
וְתִגְאֲלֵנּוּ גְּאֻלָּה שְׁלֵמָה
וְנוֹדֶה לְשִׁמְךָ הַגָּדוֹל
סֶלָה.
And just as you made this salvation for us,
so will you add to our salvation
and you will redeem us with a complete redemption
and we will thank your great Name.
