|
Of David.
|
Blessed is the Cause my Rock,
who teaches my hands for battle, my fingers for warfare. |
My faithful one, my fortress,
my stronghold, and my deliverer, my shield in whom I shelter, who subdues my people below me. |
O Cause, what are humanity that You know them,
mortal people that You think of them? |
A human is as a breath,
one’s days like a passing shadow. |
O Cause, bend down Your sky and descend,
touch the mountains so they smoke. |
Flash lightning and scatter them,
send Your arrows and confuse them. |
Send Your hand from high,
free me and save me from the great waters, from the hand of the stranger’s sons, whose mouths speak lies and whose hands vow falsely. |
O God, let me sing a new song to You,
with a ten-string harp let me hymn to You. |
The One who gives victory to kings,
who saves David Your Servant from the evil sword. |
Free me, save me
from the hand of the stranger’s sons, whose mouths speak lies and whose hands vow falsely. |
For our children are like young trees
growing well in their youth, our daughters like corners cut to build a palace. |
Our granaries are full,
suppling sorts, all sorts; our flocks are thousands, tens of thousands in our fields. |
Our cattle are enduring –
there is no breaching, no escaping, no crying in our streets. |
Happy is the people who have it thus,
happy is the people for whom the Cause is their God. |
“The Cause” is used to translate the Divine Name YHVH, based on the philosophical idea of God as the Prime Mover and on the interpretation of the Name as a causative form of the copula – “causes to be.”
